The BCBS alpha prefix system provides a great way to look up which of their approved health care plans you’re covered by in 2022. It can be used to look up what you are covered by today, and to find out what you will be covered by tomorrow, or in the future. While this might seem like it would only be useful for people who have insurance through BCBS, that’s not the case at all—this lookup system can also be used by people who have insurance from companies other than BCBS, as well as those who don’t have insurance at all!
1) Visit the BC2 website, enter your zip code, and select BCBS of MN from the drop-down menu.
2) Enter your birthdate and click Find.
3) Scroll down on that page and you will see a list of options for plans with coverage beginning January 1, 2022. This is where you will find what your plan would be as of January 1, 2022.
Step 3: Choose Plans by Star Rating
Third, choose a plan by star rating. The star rating is based on how well a plan meets certain standards for quality and value. Plans with more stars are better than those with fewer stars, but all plans offer essential coverage.
Step 4: Is Extra Help Available?
If you are eligible for financial assistance, you can apply at your local marketplace. The marketplace will determine if you qualify for a premium tax credit or cost-sharing reduction.
Step 5: Check Expiration Dates
You will also want to make sure that your health plan doesn’t have an expiration date. If you are on a family plan, be sure all members of the family have coverage.
What if I Can’t Afford My Premium?
It’s easy to get caught up in how expensive health insurance can be, but there are a number of ways you can mitigate these costs.
If I Have to Switch Plans, What Should I Do?
If you have to switch plans, make sure you keep your doctor and your prescriptions. Make a list of any medications that you take right now and how often you take them. Then, find out what medications are covered by each of your health plan options.
