CES 2022’s Most Exciting Laptop Trends

There were a lot of new laptops, updates, and more at CES 2022, and many of them came out at the show.

We saw a few big trends when we looked at the best new laptops from Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Asus. These trends will be important for laptops in 2022 and beyond.

Haptic Trackpads Are Here To Stay

Apple has made haptic feedback trackpads for a long time. As opposed to using a physical button, the trackpad uses motorized haptics to replicate the sensation of a click without the need for a real button. After years of only having the technology on MacBooks, we started to see high-end Windows laptops like the Surface Laptop Studio use it in 2021, after years of only having it on MacBooks

But at CES 2022, it looks like it’s a full-blown trend. As soon as we saw it, Dell’s XPS 13 Plus laptop had a trackpad built into the glass on the palm rests. It also showed up in the ThinkPad Z13, another new laptop that caught our eye at CES.

You might not expect to find this kind of trackpad on the HP Elite Dragonfly Chromebook, but it did. Now, this isn’t just any old Chromebook. It might be the best-looking Chrome OS device ever made. That said, this technology is spreading so quickly shows that it’s becoming more common.

There Is No Longer Any Place For 720p Webcams.

The webcams were everywhere you looked at this year’s CES, and that’s because they were so important. It took more than two years, but laptop manufacturers finally made the slow gears of supply chains move in response to the rise of working from home and other places where people can’t be there. A webcam of at least 1080p was found on almost all of the new laptops shown at this year’s CES trade show. HP even made it a point to put a 5-megapixel camera in every commercial PC that was made.

Even most of the monitors shown at CES had built-in webcams, even though they didn’t show up there. Even new high-end laptops like Dell’s UltraSharp U3223QZ or HP’s Z34c have 4K cameras on top for crystal-clear video calls. It means you can see everything clearly when you talk on the phone.

If you bought a new tech product in 2021, it would likely have a better webcam than in the past. How wonderful!

OLEDs and Mini-LEDs May Be Found Just About Wherever These Days.

Conventional LED was the only option for laptop screens for a long time. In fact, at CES 2022, it became clear that laptops with newer display technologies are finally making their way into many of them. The OLED and mini-LED technology were all over the place at CES. You could see it in big monitors, gaming laptops, and normal Ultrabooks.

Heck, we even saw the new QD-OLED panel in a gaming monitor, the Alienware 34 QD-OLED, as soon as the first Samsung TVs came out with the new panel. I think that’s great, and it shows that manufacturers are finally paying attention to the technology behind the screen.

New Graphics Options

Intel announces Intel Arc dGPU for Alienware x17 laptop.

There is no doubt that Nvidia is the best at making computer games look good on a computer. But Intel and AMD showed up at CES 2022 to show a real alternative. AMD added more to its Radeon 6000 series with eight new mobile GPUs. There are options for thin and light gaming laptops to fight Nvidia’s Max-Q technology. They also showed impressive graphics abilities in their new Ryzen 6000 chips, which have built-in APUs.

On the other hand, Intel announced a soft launch of its first Arc Graphics. People who like to play games and do things with a lot of power will like these Intel GPUs. There are a lot of unknowns about Intel Arc, but over 50 PCs, both desktops and laptops, are said to be coming out with the new graphics. That’s a good start for a company that wants to get into the discrete GPU market.

However, no matter what kind of computer you buy, there are more graphics options than ever before. RTX 3080 Ti and 3070 Ti from Nvidia are safe bets.
