India’s Amazing Success at the Paralympics 2024

India showed its best-ever performance at the Paralympics 2024. India won 29 medals—seven gold, nine silver, and 13 bronze. India has set a new record by winning all these medals.  

This country has improved incredibly as in the Tokyo 2020 Games, where India won only 19 medals. In this way, India has won 50 medals in Paralympic history which is incredible.

In these Paralympics, 84 Indian athletes have participated in 12 different sports. They have participated in three new sports not in the Tokyo 2020 Games: para-cycling, para-rowing, and blind judo. The Games started from August 28 to September 8. Indian athletes performed remarkably.

The most important and historic moment was created by Avani Lekhara. She is the first Indian lady to win two gold medals at the Paralympics. She won a gold medal in the women’s 10m air rifle shooting. Her performance was incredible and set a new world record. She was determined and skillful. 

In athletics, for the first time, India showed a historic achievement with Dharambir and Parnav Soorma. In the men’s throw F51 sport, Dharambir, and Parnav Soorma reached the top three. Dharambir won the gold medal and set a new Asian record with a throw of 34.92 meters.

 His performance showed his determination and effort. Pranav Soorma won the silver medal, making the country proud. Additionally, Praveen Kumar set a new Asian record by winning the gold medal in the high jump T64 sport. In this way, India won six gold medals and created history at the Paralympics.

Sumit Antil, who is known for his javelin-throwing skills, won a gold medal. He made history by becoming the first Indian athlete to win this title in the Paralympics. He won the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw F64 with a throw of 70.59 meters. And it was a new Paralympic record in this sport. Sumit broke his record from the Tokyo 2020 Games three times in this competition. 

This time he was more determined than before.Mariyappan Thangavelu also showed excellent performance. He won a bronze medal in the high jump T42 sport. He has become the first Indian to win three medals in the Paralympics. He won a gold medal in Rio 2016 and a silver medal in Tokyo 2020. He has shown consistent performance over the years which makes him win three medals in the Paralympics 2024.

In the Paralympics, India won four medals. Preethi Pal won a bronze medal in the women’s 100m T35 race. This was a historic achievement made by her as she won India’s first-ever medal in this sport at the Paralympics. Another big success came from Deepthi Jeevanji, who became the first Indian athlete who win a medal even with intellectual disability. She won a bronze medal in the women’s 400m T20 race. Overall, India has shown the best performance in its sports history. 

India also showed the best performance in archery. Sheetal Devi, who is an armless archer, set a world record. She made a world record along with Rakesh Kumar in the Double Archery match. She is only 17 years old and has become India’s youngest Paralympic medallist. She won a bronze medal in the double Archery game with Rakesh. Additionally, Harvinder Singh became India’s first Paralympic archery champion and made history.

The Paris 2024 Paralympics have been overall incredible for India. Their achievements showed the hard work, talent, and dedication of their athletes. They made history and set a new benchmark for success at the Paralympic Games.
